Intracoastal Barge Transportation was established due to the direct request of some of the largest chemical shippers in Louisiana.

These shippers realized they could utilize a barge service to load tanks to maximum gross weights, reduce transit times, and take advantage of not only the lower ocean freight costs but also the reliability the Port of Houston offers. By loading a single ISO tank to its maximum weight, they could decrease the freight cost per pound by at least 20%.

Not only that, the same costs and advantages also applied to imports. By working with raw material vendors overseas, this allowed for additional savings and reliability — which were paramount to optimizing and strengthening their supply chains.
